How can we improve the accuracy of 3D printed models
3D printing is currently one of the most popular and most viable technologies in the field of rapid prototyping. 3D printing technology shortens the research and development cycle for products and reduces research and development costs. In practical applications, many people have precision requirements for models. So, in the process of 3D printing, how do improve the accuracy of 3D printing models? By taking care of the following points, you can also print high-precision models.
1. The accuracy of the 3D printing machine itself
When we buy a 3D printer, we must first understand the printing accuracy of the machine. The manufacturing and assembly accuracy of the 3D printing machine and the vibration during operation will affect the 3D printing accuracy. The accuracy of the 3D printer depends on whether the walking part in the mechanical part is accurate and reasonable.
2. Layer thickness
Layer thickness here is the layer thickness/layer height when slicing. Since each layer has a certain thickness, there will be obvious steps on the solid surface after forming (the higher the layer thickness, the more obvious), which will directly affect the Dimensional error and surface roughness of the formed body. For the FDM process, this is a principle error, and it is impossible to completely eliminate the steps. The intelligence reduces the step effect by setting a smaller layer thickness.
3. Nozzle temperature
Nozzle temperature determines the material’s bonding properties, stacking properties, wire flow, and extrusion line width. Therefore, the nozzle temperature should not be too low or too high. Too low, the viscosity of the material increases, and the extrusion speed is slow; too high, the material tends to be liquid, the viscosity coefficient decreases, the fluidity is enhanced, and the extrusion is too fast to form precise and controllable filaments. Therefore, when setting the temperature of the nozzle, it should be selected within a certain range according to the characteristics of the selected wire to ensure that the extruded wire is in a molten flow state.
4. Types of consumables
3D printers use different types of materials or the quality of the same material is different, and the glossiness of the final model is also very different. Users can only use the most suitable material to make their 3D printer print the most perfect model.
5. Nozzle diameter
The diameter of the nozzle also determines the width of the extruded filament, which affects the accuracy of the finished product. Everyone knows that 3D printing builds objects in layers. Therefore, the layer thickness setting also affects the roughness of the finished product: with a large diameter nozzle, the layer thickness is thicker, and although its 3D printing speed is faster, the finished product will be rougher; on the contrary, with a small diameter nozzle, the 3D printing process time Although increased, the finished product is more refined. The diameter of the nozzle is generally only 0.2mm, 0.3mm, or 0.4mm. The reason why it cannot be smaller is that it is determined by the flow properties of the non-Newtonian fluid of the consumables. If the diameter is too small, the flow resistance will be too large.
